East Coast Park Photoshoot Guide: Beach Photos in Singapore

Woman in a white crochet dress with a frangipani in her hair walking out of the waves, East Coast Park beach photoshoot, Singapore

East Coast Park is where Singaporeans go to the beach: a long stretch of sand, sea breeze, palms, cycling paths and barbecue pits along the south-east coast. It’s more local and relaxed than Sentosa, with ships dotted along the horizon and plenty of space, and it’s lovely for beach photos in Singapore that feel easy and natural.

This guide covers the best spots for photos at East Coast Park, when the light is best, how to get there, and what to wear.

East Coast Park photoshoot: quick guide

  • Nearest MRT: Marine Parade, Siglap or Bayshore (Thomson–East Coast line), then walk through an underpass to the park; or a short taxi ride
  • Best time: after about 4pm until sunset; early morning for sunrise over the sea
  • Cost: free
  • Time needed: 1 to 2 hours
  • Best for: couples, families, friends, parent-and-child and solo portraits
  • What to wear: white, light blue, denim, linen, crochet and relaxed beachwear

Why East Coast Park is great for photos

The park runs for kilometres along the coast, so it never feels as crowded as the tourist beaches. The water is calm most days, with small waves that are great for playful photos. And because it’s where locals come to cycle, picnic and relax, photos here feel like real life: a warm evening by the sea rather than a staged set.

Best photo spots at East Coast Park

1. The waterline

The best photos here happen where the sand meets the water. Walk out of the waves, wade in, or just stand and let the sea breeze move your hair. The small waves add movement and white foam to the frame.

2. Sitting in the surf

Sit on the wet sand at the edge of the water and let the waves roll in around you. It feels spontaneous and gives lovely, relaxed expressions, especially with the camera low near the sand.

3. Palms and the grassy shore

Behind the beach, rows of palm trees and grassy areas give you shade and a tropical backdrop. It’s a good place for family photos or a picnic scene.

4. The cycling paths and jetties

The park’s long paths are made for cycling and skating, and there are jetties and breakwaters stretching out to sea at points along the coast. If you like, rent bikes for a fun couple or family photo in motion.

Best time for an East Coast Park photoshoot

After 4pm until sunset. The sun gets lower and warmer, and the late light turns the water gold and green. It’s also much cooler than midday. This is my first choice here.

Early morning. The park faces south-east, so sunrise comes up over the sea. It’s quiet, cool and peaceful, with joggers and cyclists passing by.

Midday. Very bright and hot on open sand, with little shade by the water. If you must shoot at midday, we use the palms and trees.

What to wear

  • White and cream always look fresh by the sea
  • Light blue and denim feel relaxed and match the water
  • Crochet, linen and flowing dresses move beautifully in the breeze
  • A flower in your hair, a straw hat or sunglasses for a holiday touch
  • Be ready to get wet. Wear something you don’t mind getting splashed, and bring a change of clothes and a towel

Tips for better photos

  • Keep moving. Walk, wade, splash and play with the waves. The best beach photos come from movement, not stiff poses.
  • Use the shoreline as a leading line, and lower the camera to make the horizon cleaner.
  • Leave space. A lot of sea and sky around the person gives a calm, open feeling.
  • Bring water and sunscreen. It’s hot even late in the day.

For photographers: a 24mm or 35mm for wide beach scenes, an 85mm for backlit portraits, and a 24–200mm for candid shots of people walking and cycling from a distance.

A simple photo route

Marine Parade MRT → underpass to the park → the beach and waterline → palms and paths → finish at the water at sunset

After the shoot, the East Coast Lagoon Food Village hawker centre in the park is great for satay and seafood by the sea.
